As a child, she and her sister delivered <em>Daily News<\/em> newspapers on bicycles. At a young age, Ryan attended the Stagedoor Manor performing arts training center in Loch Sheldrake, New York. By the age of 17, she graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. After completing her education, she began participating in various theatrical productions. Starting in 1993, Ryan frequently appeared on Broadway and in television roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1999, she made her feature film debut in the drama <em>Roberta.<\/em> The story follows Jonathan Fishman, a young computer specialist from Manhattan who encounters a prostitute and realizes she is his childhood friend Roberta. The child\u2019s mother, Helene McCready, is a drug dealer. Amy Ryan masterfully portrayed a tough, substance-dependent woman unaware of the name of her daughter\u2019s favorite toy.
