Early Years
Ronald Walken (his real name) was born on March 31, 1943, in Queens, to the family of a bakery owner. At the age of 15, he saw a photo of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, in a magazine. Walken changed his hairstyle to look like the legendary musician. However, the New Yorker was far from the show business world at that time. As a teenager, he worked as a lion tamer in a circus.
After studying for a year at Hofstra University, he was offered a role in the musical Best Foot Forward. The young actor honed his dancing skills at the Washington Dance Studio and then switched to dramatic stage roles and films. At a young age, Walken appeared as an extra in numerous television shows.
More than 100 roles
Walken finally decided to become an actor after playing in The Colgate Comedy Hour. It was a comedy-musical series featuring famous comedians and artists of the time. In 1953, he starred in the TV show Wonderful John Acton. In 1964, the actor adopted the stage name Christopher Walken.
In 1971, he appeared in the movie The Anderson Tapes. This was a major crime film with Sean Connery in the lead role to depict electronic surveillance, from security cameras in public places to hidden recording devices.
Overall, Walken’s playing is characterized by sudden pauses and a strange speech rhythm. His unpredictable emotions make him highly valuable in the comedy genre as well. In many interviews, the actor mentioned that he considers every film part as a learning experience. He was used to giving his all to his work and never accepted a role if he was too busy with other projects. Christopher Walken has starred in over 100 films and TV shows.
